Blend Kitchen On The Move

31.05.18

This summer we’re moving our Blend Kitchen operations into new premises on 18 Pinstone Street, in the heart of Sheffield city centre.  Unlike other cafes, bars and restaurants in the city centre, the purpose behind ‘Blend Kitchen’ is unique. Their mission is to “use the world of hospitality, food and cookery to make a real difference at a community level. To be a catalyst to improve health, life skills, employability and social cohesion”.

Since forming in October 2016, we’ve operated ‘pop up’ cafes and restaurants, street food events and specialty bistro nights across the city. In that time thousands of people have enjoyed the food Blend serve, while providing training to over 40 people and helping 15 move into paid employment. Many of the people Blend work with come from a range of challenging backgrounds including:

  • asylum seekers
  • people with diagnosed mental health conditions
  • people with learning disabilities
  • ex-offenders
  • parents returning to the world of work
  • the long term unemployed

The menu at Blend Kitchen will be designed around the best in local, seasonal produce while taking inspiration from the cultures and communities that make up Sheffield.

Breakfast will largely have an egg theme with dishes such as:

  • eggs benedict
  • eggs Florentine
  • French toast and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon

For lunch there will be a selection of sandwiches to eat in or take away including Sheffield Cheese Masters ‘Little Mesters’ cheese with watercress and homemade apple and beetroot chutney.

Throughout the day there will be a selection of small plates available designed to be shared or eaten as a first course. These will include:

  • Rillette of Moss Valley pork (a course pate made from slow roast pork) with apple, caramelised onion and sage puree.
  • There will also be a crab cocktail with Bloody Mary sauce
  • For vegetarians roast red pepper and smoked paprika hummus with flat bread and olive oil

For mains you’ll be able to enjoy dishes inspired by some of the people Blend work with.

  • One of these is Tristan’s jerk marinated chicken with a roast pepper, spinach and spring onion salad with a scotch bonnet and coriander dressing.
  • These will go alongside more seasonal dishes such fillet of salmon with peas, broad beans, jersey royal and sorrel broth.

For people with a sweet tooth there will be a selection of homemade cakes and tarts available each day along with ice creams.

In advance of Blend Kitchen opening this summer, Blend have a number of great value deals on offer. These offers are part of Blend’s crowd funding campaign to help raise money to equip their kitchen. Offers available in advance of opening range from
